Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 23, 2026
Plainmo (“Plainmo,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the personal-finance application available at plainmo.com. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and protect it, and the choices you have. Plainmo is a read-only application: it helps you understand your own money and never moves, transfers, or spends funds on your behalf.
By creating an account or using Plainmo, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
1. Information we collect
Information you provide. When you create an account, we collect your email address and authentication credentials so we can secure and manage your account.
Financial account data (via Plaid). When you choose to link a bank or credit-card account, our data provider Plaid Inc. (“Plaid”) securely connects to your financial institution and provides us with the account and transaction information you authorize. This includes account metadata (such as account name, type, the last few digits of the account number, and balances) and transaction history (such as amount, date, merchant, and category). We use only Plaid's Transactions product. We do not collect your Social Security number, full account or routing numbers, or online-banking login credentials — you enter those directly with Plaid, and Plaid does not share them with us.
Usage and device data. Like most web applications, we collect limited technical information (such as log data and general usage events) to operate, secure, and improve the service.
2. How we use your information
We use your information only to provide and improve Plainmo:
- To display insights about your own finances — net worth, cash-flow, budgets, recurring charges and subscriptions, and credit-card rewards value.
- To operate, maintain, secure, and improve the service.
- To communicate with you about your account and important service updates.
- To comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal or financial information, and we do not use your financial data for advertising.
3. How we share information
We share information only as needed to run the service, and never for sale. Specifically, with:
- Plaid — to connect your financial accounts and retrieve the data you authorize.
- Service providers that host and operate our infrastructure (for example, our cloud hosting and database providers), who process data on our behalf under confidentiality obligations.
- Legal and safety — when required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users and the service.
- Business transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this policy.
4. Plaid
We use Plaid to connect your accounts. By linking an account, you also agree to Plaid's End User Privacy Policy, which describes how Plaid collects and handles your information. You can read it at plaid.com/legal. Plaid processes the credentials you enter to connect your institution; those credentials are not shared with Plainmo.
5. Data retention and deletion
We retain your account and financial data only for as long as your account is active and we need it to provide the service. You can delete your account at any time from your account settings. When you do, we remove your stored financial data — including linked items, accounts, and transactions — and instruct Plaid to disconnect the associated account access so your financial institution no longer shares data with us. Some limited records may be retained where required by law.
6. Security
We take the protection of your data seriously. All traffic is encrypted in transit using TLS, and your data is encrypted at rest. The access tokens that allow us to retrieve your financial data are additionally encrypted at the application layer before storage, and each user's data is isolated so that no other user can access it. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information using industry-standard safeguards.
7. Your rights and choices
You can access and update your account information, unlink connected accounts, and delete your account at any time from within Plainmo. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over your personal information, such as the right to access, correct, or delete it. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@plainmo.com.
8. Children's privacy
Plainmo is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will delete it.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the effective date above and, where appropriate, notify you within the application.
10. Contact us
If you have questions about this policy or your data, contact us at privacy@plainmo.com.
